Columbia place
Washington DC
*designed and documented in collaboration with Cooper Carry and tvsdesign
Columbia Place-Square 369 is a mixed use development with a dual brand hotel, apartments and a small retail component. With 201 apartments and 504 hotel keys, it stands across the street from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and the Marriott Marquis. The Hotel has 357 Courtyard by Marriott keys and 147 Marriott Residence Inn keys. Located in the transition zone between commercial and residential areas, and in the historic Shaw neighborhood, the building has to mediate this transition and has been designed with traditional masonry and terra cotta material deployed with a contemporary sensibility. The project includes 8 existing historical buildings that are incorporated into the program to be essential design elements that preserve the historic urban fabric and maintain the neighborhood scale and material palette. An enclosed open courtyard, roof terraces and other green roofs as well as other sustainable measures that contribute to LEED Silver certification.
BLUR Workshop personnel were a pivotal part of the design team which was a partnership between Cooper Carry and tvsdesign.
