gaylord texan - meeting and guestroom expansion

Grapevine, TX

Situated between Lake Grapevine and the existing Gaylord Texan Resort, this expansion project is a 300 guest room expansion stacked on a new upscale conferencing facility. The new banquet space, opened in April 2018, provides the property with an additional large ballroom and sixteen additional meeting rooms. The pre-function has panoramic views of the lake and offers both an elevated and on-grade terrace for breakout or complimentary event space. It connects to the existing hotel, providing seamless guest and operational links, but also has a separate arrival entrance and unique identity.

Inspired by the rich heritage of Texas architecture and the indigenous natural environment, the concept is a contextual response that integrates both interior design and exterior facades into a simple but elegant composition. The design is also in part a contemporary interpretation of the existing hotel vocabulary, in order to make the two buildings feel compatible without an attempt to replicate. Borrowing from the material palette and detailing, the expansion provides the existing hotel with a fresh new image.
