MAGNOLIA DISTRICT AT OPRYLAND
Nashville, TN
The Sports Bar and Event Pavilion at The District are the latest additions to the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. Occupying an open-air courtyard, the buildings animate what was an underutilized outdoor space, bringing a hum of activity to that part of the hotel. The aesthetic of the building pays homage to the warehouses of the famous printing industry from the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Nashville. Weathered brick and blackened metal framed windows and doors compromise much of the building exterior, while exposed steel structure contributes to the industrial aesthetic. The Sports bar building features a two-story volume with a double height video wall for viewing a variety of sporting events. Connected by a series of garage doors, smaller dining areas flank the main space. These spaces are further connected to the exterior by another layer of garage doors, allowing the building to open to the outside when the weather allows. A separate Tasting Room borders the existing hotel and features garage doors opening onto the Magnolia Lobby and an indoor/outdoor walk-up window at the bar. The stand-alone event pavilion has a similar aesthetic to the Sports Bar, but with a more dressed up look and feel on the interior. Exterior amenities for the project include a beer garden, covered porch dining, a large event lawn with fireplaces, and an intimate garden for private events and weddings.
