Located across the street from the Walter E Washington Convention Center in downtown DC, the Washington Marriott Marquis is a 4-star Convention Hotel that serves as the Brand flagship for Bethesda-based Marriott. At 1175 keys and 46 suites, the Marquis was designed to complement the Convention Center, and includes an underground connection to the facility. The hotel includes over 100,000 square feet of class A meeting and banquet space including a 30,000 square foot Grand Ballroom and two 11,000 square foot Junior Ballrooms. A 16 story atrium provides daylight to a grand lobby that includes five retail and restaurant outlets as well an indoor event terrace. The historic Samuel Gompers AFL-CIO building was renovated to include a boutique-style set of guestrooms, health club and restaurant. As a LEED Silver certified building, it was one of the largest hotels to achieve that rating at the time of its completion. The Lobby includes several water features as well as a 56’ tall sculpture developed by Local artist Rodney Carroll. The sculpture occupies the center of an elliptical elevated public zone with bar and restaurant access that serves as the social center of the hotel lobby
BLUR Workshop personnel were a pivotal part of the design team which was a partnership between Cooper Carry and tvsdesign.
