Matt Forsell

Matt Joined BLUR Workshop in the Summer of 2021 after working for Lord Aeck Sargent in the housing and mixed-use department. His previous professional background also includes working for a small design-build firm on the New Jersey Shore after Super Storm Sandy devastated the area. While in New Jersey, he led the effort and was project manager for Structural Observation Reports of Super Storm Sandy-affected homes for multiple organizations, including The Visitation Relief Center, Ocean County Long Term Recovery, and A Future with Hope.

As part of his professional training, he learned to repair, rebuild and lift up countless homes to meet the requirements of the new FEMA regulations and everchanging flood maps. While in the housing and mixed-use department at LAS he learned to design for large scale projects including large multifamily projects with commercial or live/work compatibility. One of his

His favorite project in his portfolio is a custom glass brick façade, which he led the design with his class during his last year of his Master’s Degree in Architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology. Here he designed and manufactured a CNC milled steel mold which allows for 3 different sized glass bricks to made infinitely with one mold. He also led the design and construction of the Mock-Up of the façade which is 2,000 lbs. of glass bricks suspended in tension in a steel frame which he and a few classmates including BLUR’s Roberto Bucheli Miranda constructed themselves. Today this façade is a permanent installation in the Hinman Research Building, where aspiring Architecture Graduate students hold studio each day at Georgia Tech.

Matt is a strong believer that Architecture is a physical built work of art that is never complete and can always be improved. This leads him on his passion to always improve oneself whether in large scale design or furniture making.
